Ukraine was in first place in the list of countries with the highest prevalence of measles in 2018. A press release published on the website of the UN Children’s Fund.
“Ukraine has now achieved over 90 percent coverage of children with vaccination against measles, however, for many years the level of immunization was very low. Therefore, a large number of older children and adults at risk”, — stated in the report of the organization.
In early February, it was reported that the incidence of measles in Europe in 2018 was taken by Ukraine. This country accounted for over half of the total number of cases (53 thousand people). In General in Europe over the past year has infected 82 thousand people, which is a record for the decade.
In February of 2018 in Ukraine was banned in Russia the vaccine against measles, mumps and rubella “Priorix”. This was done on the basis of “establishing that there is in circulation on the territory of Ukraine of unregistered medicines”.
Measles is highly contagious and can cause serious complications, in particular blindness or swelling of the brain. In addition, it increases the risk of pneumonia and intestinal diseases, which often lead to the death of the patient.
