Zelensky called Putin against the allies

The President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky said that he had called his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in defiance of allies, as it is important for Ukrainians. About Zelensky said in the program “Frankly with the President,” published in his Facebook account.

He admitted that all partners of Kiev was against the call to the Russian leader. “I decided to call Putin, because this is primarily a question of Ukraine, the question of our citizens. So we should thank our Western partners, to thank everyone for the support, but needs to have an opinion,” — said Zelensky.

The head of state said that he was scared the conversation with Putin. “But I told about our people. And why be afraid and to fear if truth is on your side?” — he stressed.

According to Zelensky, the previous government did not want to stop the war in the Donbass, despite regular communication with the Russian side.

The President also raised the issue of a possible meeting leaders “channel four”. “On July 12 was the first meeting of our representatives, we agreed that there will be another meeting already more substantial, and after one meeting I will try to meet four leaders,” said Zelensky.

July 11, at the initiative of Kyiv, the presidents of Russia and Ukraine Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky had a phone conversation. They discussed settlement of the conflict in the South-East of Ukraine and the return of detainees held by both sides, as well as the continuation of contacts in the “Normandy format”.

The “Normandy format” — a diplomatic group consisting of representatives of Russia, Ukraine, France and Germany on settlement of the situation in the Donbass. In February 2015, the four leaders agreed in Minsk instrument including the introduction into the region of the cease-fire and a legislative recognition of the special status of the region.
