Russia welcomed the indefinite ceasefire in the Donbass. This was stated by Deputy foreign Minister of Russia Grigory Karasin, RIA Novosti reported.
According to him, “positive changes are obvious, because all waited for just this approach.” He specifically pointed out that changed the tone of negotiations. The Deputy Minister welcomed the ceasefire and progress in the reconstruction of the bridge near the village of Lugansk.
At the same time, Karasin believes that “early to speak about any qualitative breakthrough”. The foreign Ministry pointed out that the parties to the conflict have to develop relationships.
On 17 July, the contact group on settling the situation in the South-East of Ukraine agreed on an indefinite ceasefire in the Donbass. It will begin on the date of early parliamentary elections in Ukraine: on 21 July at 00: 01 am local time. On the same day it was reported that a humanitarian sub-group on Donbass agreed in the shortest possible time to prepare for the exchange of prisoners.
Part of Donbass is out of control in Kiev after an armed conflict that lasted almost five years. In April 2014, the Ukrainian government began a military operation against the unrecognized Donetsk and Lugansk national republics, which declared independence from Kiev after the change of the Central government. In the spring of 2018, the format operation has been changed, the control over its implementation have received the Armed forces of Ukraine from the HSE, which replaced the anti-terrorist operation under the control of the security Service of Ukraine.
