The Russian defense Ministry denied the information to Reuters about the participation of Russian special forces and ground forces in battles with Pro-Turkish fighters in Syria. This is with reference to the Agency Interfax reports.
“The information disseminated by the British information Agency Reuters about the alleged involvement in the fighting of the Russian “land forces” and “special units” in the province of Idlib (Syria) — another fake. No Russian “land forces” in Syria was not”, — reads the statement of the Ministry of defense.
It also says that in the area in question, located only observation posts of the Russian military police.
Earlier on June 18 Reuters, citing a Pro-Turkish fighters said that Russian special forces and ground troops engaged in ground combat in Syria, helping the government forces to deal with armed rebels.
The civil war in Syria began in spring 2011. The main participants of the conflict — government forces, acting on the side of the incumbent President Bashar al-Assad, the so-called moderate opposition and Islamist groups. The opposition support the United States and European countries, Russia is helping Assad government.
