In an attack by saltwater crocodile killed 45-year-old resident of the village, located near national Park Bhitarkanika in the Indian state of Odisha (Orissa). This publication reports The New Indian Express.
Reptile grabbed the man, when he bathed in the river. The villagers raised the alarm and tried to save him, but they failed to stop a predator. The victim was the sixth person since the beginning of the year, who was killed by crocodiles in the surrounding national Park Bhitarkanika.
“In recent months, many crocodiles out of the Park and head to rivers, streams and other water bodies to lay eggs, — explains the representative of the forestry Department Bimal Prasanna Acharya (Bimal Prasanna Acharya). — We repeatedly warned the villagers not to go into rivers and waterways near Bhitarkanika because they are teeming with saltwater crocodiles”.
Saltwater crocodile is one of the largest predators on the planet. Males of this species reach seven meters in length and can weigh up to two tons. They are found on the Eastern coast of India, in many countries in South-East Asia, Papua New Guinea and Northern Australia.
In November, estuarine crocodiles the mating season begins, which lasts until Feb. At this time they are especially aggressive and fiercely defend their territory. From March to August saltwater crocodiles lay eggs.
The national Park is inhabited by no less Bhitarkanika 1742 estuarine crocodiles. There also are found the tiger pythons, king cobras, warty ibises, zmeeshejka and other animals.
In 2018, it was reported that in the state of Odisha in the attack of a crocodile killed a 14-year-old student. The villagers blamed in death of boy power, which, despite promises, has not erected the fence from crocodiles.
