Trust Kiev to Berlin seriously undermined after the restoration of the powers of the Russian delegation in PACE. This was stated by Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany Andrew Miller in an interview with Die Welt.
In his words, “horrible” decision was “a fatal mistake”. “Unfortunately, voted for it and eight German deputies, in particular, drew the attention of the head of the delegation Andreas Nick from the CDU,” explained Miller.
Ukrainians fear that one day Germany will return to “real politics” and agree with Russia, sacrificing the interests of the authorities in Kiev, said the Ukrainian Ambassador. He added that the telephone conversation of President Vladimir Zelensky and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin should be a signal to Paris and Berlin on the need to actively work on finding a solution in the Donbass.
July 18, Miller accused loyal to Russia, the German politicians of betrayal. Criticism of the Ambassador was subjected to the Prime Ministers of the Federal States Stephan Weil and Manuel Sweig. Weil advocated the abolition of sanctions against Russia, and Sweig called for more active dialogue with Moscow. According to the Ambassador, the policy of a Pro-Russian position and thus “destroy the credibility of Germany as a mediator”.
PACE adopted a resolution that restored Russia to the powers of the Assembly in full on June 26. After this decision, the Ukrainian delegation expressed their intention to leave the organization and left the meeting room. She also did not participate in the voting for the new Secretary General of the PACE.
