Armenia expects Russia “military surprises” in terms of arms supplies. About it in conversation with journalists said the Minister of defense David Tonoyan, reports “Sputnik Armenia”.
Answering the journalists ‘ questions, he hinted that Yerevan can buy a new Russian anti-aircraft missile complexes “Thor”. “I can say that “Thor” is a very interesting weapon. We have appropriate expectations,” — said the Minister of defence.
He also said the time of supply to Armenia of Russian fighters su-30CM. According to Tonoyan, the Armenian side expects the implementation of the manufacturer of its obligations until the end of 2019 or early 2020.
Earlier, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan held a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which the parties discussed a question of deliveries of new weapons. Then Pashinyan reported having “some arrangements” and expressed the hope that Yerevan will receive from Moscow “something big”.
In early may it became known that Armenia started the process of procurement of upgraded fighters su-30 from Russia. Armenian Prime Minister then said that delivery of the aircraft — known fact, however, the acquisition of other types of weapons, he refused to disclose.
In February, the Minister of defense Davit Tonoyan also said that Armenia can obtain a new Russian loan for the purchase of weapons after it implemented the current — in the amount of $ 100 million. It was issued in 2017 under three percent per annum, Armenia needs to use the facilities until 2022.
