Near the nuclear plant has bred a rare crocodiles

Channels near a nuclear power plant to Turkey point, located 40 kilometers from the U.S. city of Miami, Florida are teeming with American crocodiles. Reported by the Associated Press.

Cooling system of nuclear power plants has become one of the three biggest habitats of these rare reptiles in the United States. In its waters live hundreds of American crocodiles, about a quarter of all livestock in the country. Energy company Florida Power & Light, which serves the power station, trying to increase the population and hired a team of biologists that help to build a nest for crocodiles and relocated their young.

For seven days from July 15 to 21, professionals caught in the channels near the plant 73 baby American crocodiles. They measured, gave trackers to monitor the development of and released into places where they will have more chances of survival.

“American crocodiles have a bad reputation but they are just trying to survive, says Michael Lioret, one of the biologists at the Florida Power & Light. Is a timid animal, which is not the case before us”.

American crocodiles are found from Florida to Northern South America. As a rule, their length does not exceed 3-4 meters. The only American crocodile attack on humans in the United States occurred in 2014. Both victims survived.

In April it was reported that in Jamaica the city PUR-Menz corner electrician was left without a leg after the attack, American crocodile during an evening walk on the beach. The man managed to escape and the morning hiding from the predator in an old refrigerator that was lying on the shore.
