Putin lifted the sanctions against Eritrea

Russian President Vladimir Putin has lifted sanctions against Eritrea imposed nine years ago. The corresponding decree of the Russian leader on Monday, July 22, published on the official portal of legal information.

As noted in the document, restrictions on African countries, taken in connection with the adoption of the relevant resolution of the UN Security Council 2444 dated 14 November 2018. It is clarified that the decree comes into force from the moment of its signing.

The decree about introduction of sanctions against Eritrea was signed in July 2010, who was then President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev. In particular, the document prohibits sale and transfer of the African country of all types of arms and related materiel, including weapons and ammunition, military vehicles and military equipment, military equipment and related materials, spare parts for these products. In addition, they introduced a ban on providing Eritrea training services and the provision of technical, financial and other support that are associated with military activities.
