Russia continues to issue passports to residents of the breakaway Donetsk and Lugansk national republics (DND and LNR), deprived of the right to protection and social support in Ukraine, said Federation Council member Oleg Morozov. It was quoted by RIA Novosti on Monday, July 22.
“We will continue to issue passports. It is the sovereign right of Russia and the voluntary desire of citizens DND and LNR. (…) And sanctions — it is empty,” he said.
Earlier Monday, Secretary of national security Council and defense of Ukraine Alexander danyluk reported on the study of anti-Russian sanctions. According to him, Kiev intends to complicate the process of giving to the residents of Donbas Russian passports.
17 July the President of Russia Vladimir Putin has signed a decree on simplification of obtaining Russian citizenship for all residents of Donbass, including refugees.
Earlier, Putin has simplified the passports to residents of Donbass, and Ukrainians living in Crimea or Sevastopol and went to joining the Peninsula to Russia.
Kiev criticized the actions of Russian authorities and threatened with sanctions point. In addition, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky was commissioned to develop a simplified mechanism for obtaining passports for ethnic Ukrainians.
