The US President Donald trump said that could win in Afghanistan in a week. He said this at the White house meeting with Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan, reports The Hill.

“I could win this war in a week, but I just don’t want to kill 10 million people. I had plans and if I wanted to win, Afghanistan would be wiped off the face of the earth,” — said the head of state. According to him, the whole operation took no more than 10 days.

The us leader added that he did not want to go this route, calling the war in Afghanistan is ridiculous. “We don’t want to be a COP and not have to be. We are in Afghanistan for 18 years,” concluded trump.

In February, the Pentagon assured that any possible withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan will not be one-sided. It was noted that any decisions about reducing the number of American forces will be undertaken in coordination with NATO allies.

The Taliban was formed in 1994 in the midst of civil war in Afghanistan. In 1996-2001 the Taliban were in power in the country, and after the overthrow in 2001, began to conduct a guerrilla war with government troops and NATO forces in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Currently, the Taliban and the government are looking for ways to reach a political compromise.
