North Korea seized the Russian fishing vessel with 17 sailors on Board. About this “Kommersant” said Deputy Director of the North-East fishing company that owns the ship, Sergei Sadler.
The incident occurred on the night of July 17. According to him, on the ship “Sakhalin-8” there were 15 Russians and two South Koreans — they went from the South Korean port of Sokcho in the sea of Japan for the production of crab. North Korea seized the ship 55 miles from the border of the country. At the moment of detention, the ship had no cargo.
“At 4 a.m. on July 17 on the go at the ship landed and the guards cut off all means of communication. We did not even realize what happened, at first I thought that they drift, but then I realized that they were captured,” explained Sadler. He added that the reason for the arrest became illegal border crossing “the zone of military escort,” which the DPRK arbitrarily set to 50 nautical miles from the shore.
The sailors were escorted to the North Korean port of Wonsan, the Russian Consul visited them only on Tuesday, July 23. He said that the Russians are housed in closed cabins, where they were regularly searched and questioned. North Korea did not explain when to start the proceedings on their issue.
