The Finance Ministry proposes to double the rate of customs duty for goods imported from abroad for personal use, writes “Kommersant”.

The current bid is 250 rubles. As follows from the draft government resolution, it is proposed to increase to 500 rubles from the beginning of 2020.

Customs duty is charged when importing goods with a value above the tax-free threshold, including those purchased at online stores, and paid in addition to the fee.

At present, the Russians do not pay a fee for goods purchased from foreign online stores if the price is below 500 Euro, and the total weight of all orders during the month was not more than 31 kilograms.

Otherwise you will have to pay 30 percent of the excess amount, but not less than 4 euros per kilo over the limit.

However, from 2020, the threshold will be reduced to EUR 200 per parcel. In this case the rate of duty will be reduced to 15 percent.

Previously, the Association of companies the Internet-trade (AKIT) proposed to introduce a unified levy of 15 percent on all purchases in foreign online stores. The government initiative is not supported.
