The solution to the underlying problem of operational unavailability of the American fifth generation fighter F-35 Lightning II, which consists in the exfoliation of radar absorbing coating on the lamp (transparent part of the cockpit) the plane has been found. According to him, the problem is caused by a sealant applied between the radar-absorbing coating and transparent base of the lantern. According to Schiff, in order to save in 2015 provider composition has changed, and now decided to return to the previous contractor and the conclusion of an agreement with another manufacturer of the sealant.
The representative of the JSF program has assured the publication that the actions taken contribute to the achievement of the F-35 Lightning II in 2020, 80 percent operational readiness. According to Schiff, at present, the preparedness of the F-35 Lightning II variants A, B and C, located in the middle East, in the Asia-Pacific region and in Europe, as high as 60-70 percent.
