The office of the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky will not consider the possibility of the exchange of the Crimea in the Donbass. This was stated by the political Advisor to the Ukrainian leader Nikita Poturaev in the program “PRIME: Mojtabaw” on channel ATR, the recording of which is available on YouTube.
“Zelensky will never exchange the Crimea to the Donbass, or Vice versa. Whatever it is called, it still would have been a mistake,” said Poturaev. According to him, such a step Zelensky would betray the citizens of Crimea, who retain Ukrainian passport, “how risky it may be”.
The Zelensky his adviser described as “a man of absolutely other type”, which deal with Russia on Crimea and Donbass is unacceptable.
Earlier, the former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that the new government can recognize the Russian Crimea in exchange for resolution of the situation in Donetsk and Lugansk.
Crimea became part of Russia on 18 March 2014 following a referendum. Kiev does not recognize the voting results and calls the Peninsula occupied territory. In Moscow insist that the procedure conforms to the norms of international law.
The armed conflict in the Donbas began in the spring of 2014. Part of the region came under the control of Kiev after residents opposed the change of government and in a referendum supported the creation of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk national republics. In response, Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation. In the spring of 2018, the format was changed, control of its implementation have received the Armed forces of Ukraine from the Operation of the United forces, which replaced the anti-terrorist operation under the control of the security Service of Ukraine.
