The statement of the President’s team of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky about the possible appearance in the Constitution the clause on “national autonomy” in Crimea, says that Kiev continues the course of the former head of state Petro Poroshenko in relation to the Peninsula. This was stated by the Deputy of the state Council of the Crimea Vladislav Gangara, reports RT.
“In fact, this statement suggests that the rate of Petro Poroshenko, which was started five years ago in Crimea, when the President Zelensky will continue to acquire new forms of speculative statements that might be trying to turn into some domestic projects,” he said.
In his opinion, such initiatives, even if it will be implemented in the Ukrainian Constitution, still remain “only on paper”.
Earlier, on 25 July, adviser to Vladimir Zelensky on political issues, the candidate Nikita Poturaev said that the Constitution of Ukraine may be included an item on “national autonomy” of the Crimea. According to him, since the nineteenth century Ukraine to cooperate with an “independent” Crimean khanate. “Russia has swallowed Crimea is an independent state, for centuries independent,” said Poturaev.
Crimea became part of Russia following a referendum held in March 2014. Ukraine, USA, EU members and other countries do not recognize its results and consider the presence of the Peninsula as part of Russia’s occupation. Moscow insists that the process of the annexation of Crimea meets standards of international law.
