In France, the court decided on the speedy liquidation of bankrupt fashion house Sonia Rykiel due to the fact that it was not financially sound buyers. It is reported by Agence France-Presse.
Financial problems started in Sonia Rykiel in 2016 after the death of its founder Sonia Rykiel. The house was finished in 2018 with the loss of 30 million euros. In connection with large debts, he was taken under judicial custody three months ago.
The time allotted to find a new owner, was extended three times. During this time, the court considered ten bids for purchase Sonia Rykiel, but none of the candidates did not provide sufficient financial guarantees. The last contest was not filed a single application.
In Sonia Rykiel worked with 133 people, the house had six boutiques in France.
Sonia Rykiel was born in Paris in 1930 into a family of Jewish immigrants from Romania and Russia. At the age of 17 she began working as a window dresser in a textile shop. 1962, Rykiel started knitting sweater knitwear for the shop of her husband, and in 1968 founded the brand Sonia Rykiel.
In 2012, she sold 80 percent of the home of Chinese investment Fund Fung Brands. In 2016, the Fund increased its stake to 100 percent. For seven years Sonia Rykiel has been invested about 200 million euros.
In March 2019 American fashion house Calvin Klein has announced the discontinuation of the collection of pret-a-porter.
