SBU detained a Russian tanker

The security service of Ukraine (SBU) has detained a Russian tanker NEYMA. This is stated Facebook account of the Department.

It is noted that the tanker was arrested for blocking the Ukrainian ships in the Kerch Strait. “Contrary to the international law of the sea soldiers of the border troops of FSB of the Russian Federation illegally, with weapons blocked the movement of Ukrainian military vehicles during the passage of the Kerch-yenikalsky channel in the Kerch Strait by tanker NEYMA”, — stated in the message.

According to the SBU, is currently preparing a petition for the arrest. The service also noted that as a result of actions of the tanker was seized Ukrainian military vehicles and arrested 24 of the seafarer in November 2018.

It is reported that the tanker under the Russian flag entered the port of Izmail on July 24. In SBU declare that the ship NEYMA was renamed NIKA SPIRIT, “to conceal his involvement in aggression in the Kerch Strait”. The tanker was searched and interrogated members of the crew.

On the website Certinfo published photos of the Russian tanker, which in November 2018 blocked the passage of the Ukrainian warships under the arches of the Crimean bridge.

Currently in Russia under investigation are 24 Ukrainian servicemen (22 seafarers and two security officers), who were detained along with three ships in the incident in the Kerch Strait in November 2018. They are accused of illegal crossing of the Russian border in an organized group.

Kiev considers its citizens prisoners of war and demands to return them to Ukraine. In may, a similar ruling made by the UN international Tribunal on law of the sea. Moscow believes that the issue of sailors not included in the jurisdiction of this court, and insists that the fate of the sailors must decide the investigation and trial in Russia.
