President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko stated the need for the development of economic relations with Latvia. It is reported BelTA.
The Belarusian leader considers insufficient the current trade turnover of $ 600 million. He believes that the country is capable of deeper cooperation if “the policy will cease to prevail over the economy.”
“Yes, over you dominates the EU, I understand that there is a situation in 28 countries, and many are not happy with the procedures which are nowadays a standard in your relationship,” — said Lukashenko. He also expressed gratitude that Latvia finds the opportunity to build with Belarus “smooth and honest relationship”.
“And I am very pleased that we have with your country, with the leadership and people of this kind in the Baltic countries there are no problems”, — concluded the President of Belarus.
Earlier, Lukashenko said that the country is ready to expand dialogue with the European Union. The Belarusian leader urged the EU to strengthen bilateral relations without waiting for “any event: whether parliamentary, or presidential elections.” “I think our relationship is more important than any political campaigns you or us,” he said.
“Today there are no obstacles in order to strengthen the dialogue not only on economic, but also political issues. Belarus is ready”, — said Lukashenko.
