American officials must exercise prudence on the question of sanctions against Turkey because of its purchase of Russian anti-aircraft missile systems s-400. This was stated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, his words are quoted by Hurriyet Daily News.
He recalled that Ankara was not allowed to buy the American system of Patriot (“patriot”), when she was asked, and therefore she turned to Russia. According to him, the full use of the system should start in the spring — in April 2020.
Now the US does not want to sell Turkey the F-35 fighter jets, but even such threats will not prevent the country to ensure its security, said the head of state. “You don’t sell us the F-35? Well, then I’m sorry, but we have to take action, we will go somewhere else,” said Erdogan.
The President added that in the event of further threats and uncertainties Turkey might also reconsider the acquisition of the Americans have 100 aircraft Boeing, the agreement which is already signed. He noted that the first of them have already been delivered, Ankara paying for him as a good customer. “I hope the United States will act sensibly in the matter of s-400” — said Erdogan.
Earlier Senator Lindsey Graham said the United States will abandon sanctions against Turkey if the country will not enter service with Russian anti-aircraft missile systems s-400. He stated that at the request of the President of the United States Donald trump called and told me about this condition, Minister of foreign Affairs of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu.
July 22, Cavusoglu said that s-400 will earn in Turkey by the beginning of 2020. The Minister noted that the Russian air defense system is working better than the American Patriot (“Patriot”). He reiterated that the s-400 is designed to protect the country from attack from the air.
The supply of Russian systems in Turkey began in July. The US and other NATO countries fear that if Ankara will appear and s-400, and the American fifth generation fighter F-35, the Russian radar systems will learn to calculate and track these aircraft. In this regard, the US Senate banned the selling Turkey the F-35. Donald trump stated that the decision on introduction of additional sanctions is still pending.
