A former fighter regiment “Azov” Nikita Makeev Callsign “Odyssey” explained why he attacked ex-President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. He posted a video message on Facebook.

Makeev said that he had tested the bulletproof vest, which is worn by Ukrainian troops, and it was easy to shoot. He wanted to give the vest Poroshenko to policies independently tested the reliability of the vest, putting themselves or his son.

Also Makeev said that he wanted to avenge the former President. “Leaping on the hood of the car , I wanted to pay him back for all those five years of humiliation, which he had committed against foreign volunteers, promising them citizenship, but instead running them through the nine circles of bureaucratic hell,” said the man.

He stressed that the incident was his personal move and was not an attempt to Poroshenko. Makeev urged to send the former President and his entourage to court.

On 25 July, a few people tried to attack Poroshenko after interrogation in the State Bureau of investigation. The incident occurred when the politician left the building after an hour of interrogation on the case of possible money laundering. The intruders attacked him when he sat in the car, but the guards managed to stop their actions.

Makeev was born in Russia and had Russian citizenship. In 2014, he went to the Ukraine and took part in the armed conflict in the Donbass on the side of the Ukrainian army. On 18 July President Vladimir Zelensky granted him Ukrainian citizenship.

The regiment “Azov” is a volunteer unit of the National guard of Ukraine. He is known for his neo-pagan ideology.
