Poland invited Putin to the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz

Russian leader Vladimir Putin will send an invitation to the event on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp (Auschwitz-Birkenau) in Poland. About this on air of the Polish radio announced the press Secretary of the President of the Republic of Blazej Spychalski, reports TASS.

In his words, “the liberation of the camp by Soviet troops — an indisputable fact of history” and this is why Putin will call. “Here, our side is willing to cooperate,” — said Spychalski.

Events to mark the anniversary will take place in Auschwitz on 27 January 2020. It is noted that the management of the Museum created on the site of the camp, earlier reported by several dozens of countries, including Russia, about the events.

Earlier in July, the Polish government confirmed that Putin was not invited to the event in honor of the anniversary of the outbreak of the Second world war. In Warsaw, noted that “it would be inappropriate to mark the anniversary of the armed aggression against Poland with participation of the leader, which today operates in such a way in relation to the neighbor.”

Auschwitz-Birkenau — a complex of German concentration camps, located in 1940-1945 years near the town of Auschwitz, 60 kilometers from Krakow. In five years it killed more than 1.4 million people, 1.1 million of whom were Jews. The complex is considered the largest and most long-lived of the Nazi death camp, one of the main symbols of the Holocaust.

German troops invaded Poland on 1 September 1939, 17 September on the territory of the country without declaring war, its military contingent entered and the Soviet Union. The battle for Warsaw continued until 28 September, after which Poland signed the act of surrender. Poland’s territory was mainly divided between Germany and the Soviet Union, parts of departed Slovakia and Lithuania.
