The head of the Ministry of energy Alexander Novak confirmed that Russia has invited Ukraine to extend the current contract on gas transit for a year. According to the Minister leads RIA Novosti.
“If there’s any corrections and can be, but it is a matter of commercial negotiations between the companies”, — said Novak. He stressed that the Ukrainian side has not reacted to this initiative and offered to wait for a response from Kiev.
Earlier on Friday, 26 July, Reuters reported that Gazprom intends to extend short-term contract for gas transit with Ukraine. Agency sources said that it is necessary, to gain time for the completion of the bypass routes of supply.
In the Ukrainian “Naftogaz” announced that such proposals are not received. “Or maybe just hasn’t arrived yet? Expect a carrier pigeon from Moscow. Sure, Brussels is also waiting for them,” added the company.
If Moscow and Kiev will not be able to agree on the transit of gas to buy gas from Ukraine, Moldova is ready. “Today, we buy gas from “Gazprom” at the price we could buy it in Ukraine, one that she receives in the reverse system [from European suppliers],” said Prime Minister Maia Sandu. She said that Moldova is dependent on the Ukrainian gas transportation system as long as you don’t build a pipeline between the Romanian city of Iasi and Chisinau. Then buy gas plan in Europe.
The term of the existing contract expires at the end of 2019. By this time Russia plans to launch two of the gas pipeline “Nord stream-2” and “Turkish stream” — they will bypass the Ukrainian territory. In Kiev are afraid that because of this gas transportation system will be unused.
