The President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky has published in his Twitter account the Day of the baptism of Russia and provoked ridicule of Internet users.
“I congratulate all the Day of baptism of Kyivan Rus-Ukraine! This historical event has become a powerful impetus to the unification of the ancient state, its strengthening and development,” wrote the Ukrainian leader.
In his address he also called on the primates of the Ukrainian churches to dialogue, but most commentators drew attention to the fact that the President referred to the never-existing state.
“I hesitate to even ask, what state was baptized by Prince Vladimir? Kievan Rus-Ukraine? He himself knew about this?” — asked one of the users. “No Kievan Rus-Ukraine was not! Remember, Mr President, as You were taught in school. Remember? From Garneau! And if not, go learn again, the President can’t be stupid,” said another user.
The celebration of the baptism of Rus ‘ Day is traditionally celebrated on July 28, the day of memory of Saint Prince Vladimir, by which in 988 ancient Rus adopted Christianity. In Ukraine at the initiative of former President Viktor Yushchenko this festival since 2008, officially is called “the Day of baptism of Kyivan Rus-Ukraine”.
