The diplomat noted that the line of contact with the opposition — is not constant and is parallel to contacts with the official authorities, and episodic.
The Russian side has used several opportunities to exchange information, to explain to the opponents of Maduro counterproductive foreign military intervention — this was previously announced by the Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov.
On 30 April the leader of the opposition Huang Guido urged soldiers and the people of the country to overthrow the President. He said that the army took his side, and called the events “the final phase of “operation Freedom””. The next day, Maduro announced his victory over the forces of the opposition.
The situation in Venezuela escalated on 23 January, when Guido amid mass protests declared himself interim President. Its legitimacy is recognized by the US, several countries in Latin America and Europe. Russia supported the incumbent President Nicolas Maduro.
