NEYMA Russian tanker that was detained in the port of Izmail by the SBU and the military Prosecutor’s office of Ukraine, was arrested along with the seized during the search of documents by the decision of seaside district court of Odessa. This was stated by the chief military Prosecutor of Ukraine Anatoly Matios on his page in Facebook.

In addition, he said that the arrest of this tanker is legal, arguing their position that “the ship, after passing border and customs control on the territory of Ukraine shall be considered as having an open border.” According to him, ratified by Russia and Ukraine, international treaties do not foresee the need to request from the Consul permission for a search of sea and river transport. “We did it legally. The point!!!” — posted by Matios.

SBU detained a Russian tanker on July 25 in the port of Izmail, where he had gone for repairs. The Ministry said that the ship NEYMA was renamed NIKA SPIRIT to “conceal the involvement in aggression in the Kerch Strait”. The tanker was searched and interrogated members of the crew. Several hours later, the sailors were released, they returned to Russia.

The ship’s captain Ilya Tabaska later said that the incident with the arrest occurred about 8 o’clock in the morning. The tanker arrived employees of law enforcement bodies of Ukraine, they conducted a search and seized documents. According to him, investigative actions were not agreed with the Russian Consul in spite of the fact that the ship under the Russian flag is a Russian territory.
