The Deputy of Legislative Assembly of Sverdlovsk region Alexander Ladygin (Communist party) criticized the consumption basket of the people of the region, comparing it to the rations of German prisoners of war in Soviet camps in 1941. Recording of his speech published on the official YouTube channel of the regional Parliament.

“Adult men need 2500-3000 calories is the minimum normal functioning of the body without degradation… That is we are laying a minimum survival level, below which begins the degradation of the body and its slow death,” — said Ladygin in response to the proposal of the Chairman of the Committee of the legislative Assembly on social policy Vyacheslav Pogudin to reduce the consumption of certain foods, while maintaining calorie serving basket.

“Under the new standard of consumption of bread adults working in the day must rely 302 grams bread rations German prisoners of war in 1941 was 600 grams. In terms of the day of German prisoners of war received 120 grams of fish per day, and Russian citizens working is supposed to get 54 grams of fish per day,” — said Ladygin, citing official documents of the USSR. In addition, he said, salt, tea, spices, German prisoners of war received four times more than the present resident of the Sverdlovsk region.

Previously, the basket offered to split into male and female. Such recommendations were made by FITZ and food biotechnology. So, scientists have developed a gender oriented food packages, “male” basket was about 14 percent more expensive for women.

In June, the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova said that Russia has eliminated hunger: over the past 25 years, the government fed the people. She added that the products on the shelves “too big enough”.

In early 2019, it became known that the consumer basket in Russia will grow by 30 percent. The cost of the consumer basket will increase by adding new products. The proposal to make these changes came from the Federal research centre of nutrition and biotechnology.
