More than 20 thousand Russians have died from HIV in 2018, the report of the Central research Institute of organization of information of the population Ministry of health of Russia.
It is clarified that the mortality rate from HIV has increased by 2.2 percent per year (total of HIV died of 20.6 thousand Russians). However, the report also indicates that the overestimation of this indicator, “since practically all of the dead in the presence of a combination of tuberculosis and HIV infection are registered as deaths from HIV infection”.
Most often HIV kills people aged 25 to 44 years (76.7 per cent), the peak of deaths occur in people aged from 25 to 34 years. “HIV infection in young working age (18-44 years) goes to one the first places in mortality structure of the population”, — stated in the text of the document.
In 2018 HIV has revealed almost 86 thousand people, in Russia was 896 thousand HIV positive. Most of them (712,5 thousand) are under medical observation.
In early July, it was reported that the increase in the number of people living with HIV in Russia, said about reducing the death rate among the infected. The health Ministry said that high rates of infestation “cannot be unambiguously interpreted as the deterioration of the epidemiological situation in the region.” For example, these numbers may increase as a result of successful treatment and saving patients.
