The head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov responded to the protest of inhabitants of Dagestan who criticised his statement about the role of Imam Shamil’s war with Russia in the XIX century in the Caucasus. The appeal of the Chechen leader published on the YouTube channel “Chechnya Today”.
Kadyrov asked the protesters Dagestanis, why they gathered in Makhachkala, and offered them to organize a protest in Grozny. The head of Chechnya said that with respect to Imam Shamil as a spiritual person and didn’t want to say anything bad about him.
According to Kadyrov, if he thought bad about Imam Shamil, he wouldn’t have to talk about it out loud, knowing that the “fellow Dagestanis regard him as their hero.” He also invited the residents of Dagestan to see their pages in social networks and their women, “who are half-naked walking”, and then say whether they consider themselves to be descendants of Imam Shamil.
Earlier, on 8 August, more than 100 people gathered in Makhachkala for an interview with Kadyrov Agency “Chechnya today”. During the conversation, the Chechen leader raised the topic of the invasion of Dagestan in 1999 and stated on the deliberate destruction of Chechens in the XIX century by order of Imam Shamil. According to the protesters, if what happened to leave it unattended, it will humiliate the inhabitants of the Republic and their ancestors.
On the same day the assistant to the Deputy of the state Duma, the Dagestani public figure Bulac Cancale has published on his page on Instagram a few videos, which show, as he discusses with Kadyrov his statement. The head of Chechnya stated that his words were misinterpreted.
