The average cost of purchases of Russians in the stores in July decreased by 1.8 percent, reaching their lowest levels since the summer of last year, according to the research of holding “ROMIR”.

In July, the average check in Russia amounted to 546 rubles, 10 rubles less than the June level. However, compared with July last year, the figure rose 3.6 percent.

The only region where the average check increased in comparison with the June data, was the far Eastern Federal district. There growth was 3.5 percent to 650 rubles. In other Federal districts the amount of the check has decreased in the North-West by 3.2 per cent (598 rubles), in the Urals and Siberia — 3.1% (to 559 and 462 rubles, respectively), in the Volga by 2.3% (to 496 rubles), in Central and South — one percent (up to 501 and 574 rubles).

In Moscow the average check rose 0.1 percent to 707 rubles, in St. Petersburg decreased by 0.9% (to 698 rubles).

The head of “romira” Alexander Melekhin called the main reason for the decline in average check. In his opinion, it was a seasonal price reduction of certain products, particularly fruit and vegetables, in connection with the season of harvests.
