USA, Germany and France in the near future will hold consultations on the extension of the “channel format”. This was stated by the special envoy of the US state Department on Ukraine Kurt Volker on the radio “voice of America”.
According to the diplomat, he is now in constant contact with the partners, discussing the settlement of the situation in the Donbass. He said that the next phase of discussions will begin next week.
2 Aug Walker noted that the U.S. is ready to consider a new format of discussion of the situation in Donbass if Russia is serious to end the conflict. Before that, it was reported that the US state Department does not support changing the format of international negotiations concerning the situation in Ukraine and demands the implementation of the Minsk agreement of Russia.
The “channel format” — the diplomatic group comprising representatives of Germany, Russia, France and Ukraine on settling the situation in Donbas. In February 2015, the four leaders agreed in Minsk instrument including the introduction of a ceasefire regime and a legislative recognition of the special status of the region.
The armed conflict in the region began in the spring of 2014 after the attempts of the new authorities in Kiev to suppress speech in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
