Dangerous change occurs in a gene RABL3, belonging to the family of RAS. Genes of this group produce proteins that are associated with the cell membrane and participate in signal transmission coming outside into the cell. They control the reproduction of cells, and disruptions in their regulation lead to uncontrolled tissue growth and metastasis. According to researchers, the presence of mutations in RABL3 it is possible to identify particularly dangerous and intractable cancer at an early stage.
The mutation was identified during the study of the family in which five of his relatives were suffering from cancer of the pancreas. The analysis included DNA sequencing (determining the nucleotide sequence) of two family members who got sick at 48 and 80 years.
