The area of natural fires in Siberia peaked in the beginning of the year and now stands at 5.4 million hectares, reported in the Russian branch of Greenpeace, citing satellite data.
“The total area damaged by fire, will soon exceed the level of 2018 and by the end of the season can beat the record of 2012,” — says the publication. Environmentalists said that the fire has already passed the 14.9 million hectares of forest in 2012 this figure reached a record of 18.1 million.
The organization noted that in their official reports Avialesohrana lowers rates almost doubled and reported only about three million hectares. The situation with the wildfires has improved with the onset of the rains and cold, but now extinguished, only nine percent of fires on the area of 283 thousand hectares, the rest belong to the “zone of control” which the law does not require quenching. In Greenpeace said that such tactics and later responses led to large-scale fires.
A state of emergency because of fires operates in Krasnoyarsk region, Irkutsk region, Buryatia and Yakutia. In Avialesohrane stated that the area of natural fires in Russia finally began to shrink.
