The first in Russia clinical center of cancer treatment with carbon ions plan to build on the basis of the National medical research centre (SMRC) radiology Ministry of health in Obninsk. It is reported portal “the Future of Russia. National projects” with reference to the press service of the centre.
“The creation of a modern center of ion therapy on the basis of SMRC radiology, with high scientific and personnel potential allows to ensure the fastest possible introduction into the clinical operation and effective use of all available opportunities”, — noted in press service.
This method of cancer treatment was invented in Japan, which is now nine centers radiation therapy. Three more work in Europe. In addition, three of the accelerator are in China. It is specified that the center in Obninsk will be the first in Russia.
“As you know, up to 30 percent of tumors have a pronounced radioresistance to photon and proton exposure. Therefore, the prospects of improvement of results of treatment of patients with such tumors currently associated with the use of carbon ions”, — added in the SMRC.
In Russia to 2024 will be implemented the national project “Health”, which in total is planned to spend more than 1.7 trillion rubles, 969 billion of them — to fight cancer. It is planned that during this time the mortality from neoplasms will decline from 200,6 to 185 cases per 100 thousand population per year. This will create more than 400 centers outpatient cancer care and re-equipped over 160 dispensaries and hospitals.
