An international group of scientists found that the bacterium Clostridium difficilethat causes infectious diseases of the intestine, evolyutsioniruet with the emergence of the type which is resistant to disinfectants and easy to apply. The organism can provoke as mild diarrhoea and life-threatening condition, for example sepsis. This publication reports Science Daily.
The researchers analyzed the genome of 906 strains of Clostridium isolated from human, animal (dogs, pigs and horses) and the environment. It turned out that currently there is a kind of microorganism that is adapted for survival and growth in a hospital setting. This strain is present in 70 percent of samples taken from hospital patients. He has the mutations that allow bacteria to better metabolize sugar. The results of the study showed that microorganisms actively colonize the intestines of mice, the diet was rich in carbohydrates.
Clostridium difficile was first introduced about 76 thousand years ago, but the number of different strains began to increase at the end of the XVI century, when the first hospitals. Bacteria form spores, resistant to the external environment and easily transmitted from person to person. To diseases often leads antibiotics that destroy beneficial microflora and promote the growth of clostridia.
