The current state of Russian industry and ensure priority financing of strategic nuclear forces and the ground forces will not allow by 2027 quantitatively and qualitatively increase of the Navy (Navy) of the country, which will make it impossible for independent execution of operations in distant seas, writes in Riddle military expert Pavel Luzin.
“And here we must not deceive even the 180 ships that the Navy needs to get to the specified date, the vast majority of them are small combat ships and auxiliary vessels,” — explained the expert.
The expert drew attention to the fact that, according to the declared plans, in the next decade Russia will have to build at least three strategic submarines, seven nuclear submarines with cruise missiles and a nuclear submarine for special purposes (a total of 11 nuclear submarines). “For comparison, over the past decade, Russia is in a much more favorable economic and political conditions is built eight of these submarines, including those who are tested and only prepare for acceptance into the fleet,” — said Luzin.
The expert believes that the way out of this situation is the creation of corvettes and frigates (patrol ships) with a displacement of 4.5 thousand tons, and diesel-electric submarines than “for many years” and deals with Russia.
The Navy will maintain its military-political importance only in nuclear deterrence and near Russian borders, he said. “In the case of operations in distant seas, Russia will be forced to look for a tactical coalition, or to join such coalitions for political purposes,” concluded Luzin.
In January of this year the first Vice-President of Academy of geopolitical problems, captain 1st rank Konstantin Sivkov wrote that the Russian Navy has no ships capable of providing effective fire support to the coastal flank of the army, or at landing, and also provide support the latter in the operational depth. In December 2017, he said that “the level of readiness of the Russian Navy to large-scale marine operations are small.”
