State Corporation “Roscosmos” has patented a method of masking spacecraft from observations of the optical means. Information about patent is contained in the database of the Federal service for intellectual property, reports RIA Novosti.
It is noted that the invention will reduce the visibility of the spacecraft in the visible range of the spectrum. The technology involves coating of the satellites, the special air bubble film, light-scattering. So when viewed from the Earth, the visibility of the object is reduced more than ten times.
Roskosmos proposes to mask the spacecraft in orbits with a height of more than 10-20 thousand miles because radar surveillance become ineffective, therefore it is necessary to use methods of optical observation.
The head of the space policy Institute Ivan Moiseev said that the development of camouflage for the satellites may be required for military purposes. According to him, with the help of images in radar and optical ranges you can find out whether maneuvering the satellite and where it’s going. New technology, however, hide his maneuvers from the observers.
Earlier it was reported that Roskosmos has received a patent for the invention of a biodegradable companion. The intent of the designers, the spacecraft in case of failure or end of life needs to take a team on the Ground and self-destruct without a trace.
