The office for public works of Qatar has launched a project on the painting of streets in the centre of Doha in blue color. It is reported Gulf News, citing engineer Saad aldoseri.
The publication notes that the experiment that is conducted jointly with a Japanese company, should help to cool the capital’s roads. According to aldoseri, the dark asphalt is more heat because the color black attracts and radiates heat.
It is assumed that the painting of roads in a blue color will reduce the asphalt temperature by 15-20 degrees. Monitor the results of the experiment will be conducted a year and a half, added the engineer.
First decided to paint a street named after Abdullah bin Jassim bin Jabr, which is one of the main attractions of Doha’s historic Souq al Waqif. In this area almost no green space, so in the summer the temperature rises to 50 degrees.
