The head a press-services of US state Department Morgan Ortagus urged Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to restore the ceasefire in Idlib. A relevant post appeared on Twitter.
“Today’s reckless airstrike by the Turkish convoy followed for the continuing brutal attacks on civilians, humanitarian workers and infrastructure. We condemn this violence and it must stop”, — wrote the representative of the foreign Department of the USA.
August 19, the Syrian air force struck the invading country of the Turkish column. According to the Turks, the shells exploded in close proximity to combat vehicles, but the losses were not reported.
Turkish armored personnel carriers crossed the border of Syria and entered the city the Sarakibe 19 Aug. Military equipment was moving towards Khan shaykhun.
Area of de-escalation in Idlib is one of four existing in Syria. It was created by Russia and Turkey in 2017. Most of it is still not demilitarized and is under the control of the group “Hayat Tahrir al-sham” (HTS created on the basis of the banned in Russia “Dzhabhat EN-Nusra”) and the armed Syrian opposition. Moscow and Damascus believe a large part of rebels on its territory by terrorists.
The civil war in Syria began in spring 2011. The main participants of the conflict — government forces, acting on the side of the incumbent President Bashar al-Assad, the so-called moderate opposition and Islamist groups. The opposition support the United States and European countries, Russia is helping Assad government.
