Georgia has accused Russia of violating airspace



Georgia has accused Russia of violating its airspace for the passage of Russian helicopter over the territory of South Ossetia. This is with reference to the statement of the state security Service of Georgia (GBS) reports “Interfax”.

In the SSC claim that the Russian helicopter flew in the area of the Georgian-controlled village Gugutiantkari in the Gori municipality. The incident occurred around noon local time (11.00 GMT). It is noted that “the helicopter was in the airspace of Georgia” for a few minutes.

In connection with the incident, Georgian authorities activated the hot line and reported the incident to the observer mission of the European Union. The fact of the span of the helicopter in GBS called “another provocative action”, adding that it harms the security situation.

In addition, the SSC has condemned the authorities of South Ossetia on Wednesday, August 21, resumed work on installing border barriers near the village Gugutiantkari.

Earlier in Abkhazia was imposed temporary restrictions on crossing of the state border with Georgia. The reason was the protest action that took place in Georgia, including in the Zugdidi district, bordering Abkhazia territory.

In 2008, between Tbilisi and Tskhinvali was an armed conflict in the night of 8 August, the Georgian military attacked the territory of the breakaway Republic of South Ossetia. On the side of the Ossetians were Russian troops, who in the course of five days pushed the Georgian army. On 26 August Moscow recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, but in Tbilisi they are still considered part of Georgia.
