The largest mosque in Europe was opened in the city of Shali in Chechnya. On Friday, August 23, RIA Novosti reported.

The mosque is called “the Pride of Muslims.” The building can accommodate 30 thousand people, and throughout its territory can at the same time praying to 70 thousand members. It’s more than the population of the Shawl, which, according to 2019, is just over 54 thousand people.

The height of the main dome is 43 meters on the sides are four 63-metre-high minaret. The mosque is built of white marble, decorated with pure gold. The building was constructed in 2012, and the opening of the mosque timed to the 68th anniversary of the birth of the first President of the Republic Akhmad Kadyrov (born August 23, 1951), father of the current head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov.

“We will call the mosque the name of all our beloved intercessor at the day of judgment the prophet Muhammad’s name,” — said during the opening ceremony, the younger Kadyrov. Earlier, residents Shawl called a mosque by the name of Ramzan Kadyrov, said the news Agency.

11 August in Moscow at the divine services on the occasion of the celebration of one of the two main Muslim holidays — Kurban Bayram — was attended by more than 240 thousand people. Services were held in the four mosques and the sites around them and at two sites outside the mosques.
