Diplomatic representation of Japan due to the discovery of a new fish processing plant on Shikotan island, is unacceptable. About TASS reported in the Russian Embassy in Tokyo.
As noted in diplomatic mission, Russia has the right to develop their territories as they wished, as Southern Kuril Islands belong to it on legal grounds at the end of the Second world war. The Embassy expressed hope that “Japan will be aware of this reality.”
Diplomats also believe that such actions Tokyo do not contribute to the dialogue on a peace Treaty between the two countries. According to them, the Japanese should not send notes of protest, and to work together with Moscow and to implement the agreements of leaders.
Representation of the Embassy handed on 5 September the head of the Russian Department of the foreign Ministry of Japan.
The ceremony of launching Russia’s largest fish processing plant was held on 5 September at the Eastern economic forum in Vladivostok. It was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin. It was reported that the plant on Shikotan capable of processing up to 1 thousand tons of fish a day.
Following the end of world war II between Moscow and Tokyo never signed a peace Treaty. The main obstacle to his signing was the unresolved territorial dispute over the southern Kuril Islands — Iturup, Kunashir, Shikotan and the Habomai group. The Japanese side calls the Southern Kuril Islands the “Northern territories” and over them does not recognize Russian sovereignty. Moscow, in turn, does not recognize the fact of the territorial dispute.
