Opposition to the construction of the pipeline “Nord stream-2” is unreasonable, according to the Chairman of the Bundestag (German Parliament) Wolfgang Schaeuble. About this politician wrote in his article for the newspaper Die Welt.
According to schäuble, the position of the German authorities in relation to the project has led to the fact that some Eastern European countries have lost confidence in Berlin, but at the moment, the sabotage of the project could harm the interests of Europe. “From a European point of view, the sabotage of the project in a roundabout way is not a reasonable solution,” he said.
In late August the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky at a joint press conference with his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda said that the implementation of the “Nord stream-2” poses a threat to Europe. The Ukrainian leader has advocated diversification of energy sources and added that Kiev is interested in active participation in regional projects in Poland.
The gas pipeline “Nord stream-2” will pass under the Baltic sea and connect Russia and Germany. To begin deliveries of gas it is planned before the end of 2019. The only obstacle to construction remains the position of Denmark, which has not yet given permission for the construction in its territorial waters. However in “Gazprom” believe that will start the project on time. Against the “Nord stream-2” are the Baltic States, Poland, USA and Ukraine. Recent fears that after the launch of the project, Russia will stop gas transit through the territory of Ukraine, depriving Kiev of multi-million dollar revenues.
On August 26, the company-operator Nord Stream AG 2 said that “Nord stream-2” is ready by 75 percent.
