The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine called on international partners to increase pressure on Russia in connection with the holding of local elections in Crimea. A press release published on the official website of the Department.
The Ukrainian side calls upon the international partners not to permit contacts at the national and regional levels with representatives of the Russian administration in Crimea and to “strengthen efforts” to return of the Peninsula under the jurisdiction of Kiev.
“Any steps aimed at easing the pressure of sanctions, the so-called normalization and dialogue like the unconditional restoration of Russia in the PACE, only according to the state-occupier in its impunity and encourages the recurrence of violations”, — reads the statement of the foreign Ministry.
8 September 2019 in the Crimea held elections to the State Council of the second convocation. Elections are organized under a mixed system: 50 deputies elected on party lists, 25 — single-mandate districts.
In 2014 in Russia according to the results of the referendum became the Crimean Peninsula. Ukraine and several other countries believe that Russia is an occupier, but Moscow denies the accusations. In the same year, member States of the European Union and also the USA and other countries introduced against Russia restrictive measures. First they were tied up with the annexation of Crimea, and then — with the conflict in the South-East of Ukraine. In response, Moscow imposed a ban on food exports from countries that supported sanctions. The West associates the abolition of measures with the implementation of the Minsk relations of complex of measures on stabilization of the situation in the South-East of Ukraine.
