Sanctions have been imposed against the Soviet Union many times, but had no effect on the decisions of the Soviet leadership. This was stated by Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev in the program “Dialogue” on TV channel “Russia-24”.
“I told them [the other heads of state and government] always say one simple thing. You know, like all these sanctions were imposed against the Soviet Union a dozen times. Never the Soviet Union his behavior has not changed. It’s a completely useless case against any state, especially a large, strong nation that is our country”, — said the head of government.
He noted that because of the sanctions, which introduced Western countries against Russia, the General atmosphere in the field of investment “poisoned”. “Sanctions always lead to one thing — all were losing money. And not only the country that has been sanctioned, but also those who have these sanctions imposed. And now the money lost, and forever,” he added.
Sunday, September 8, MEP from France, Thierry Mariani has offered to lift sanctions against Russia. The MP said that he welcomes the statement of President Emmanuel Macron on the need to rethink relations with Russia. “The first step in improving relations with Russia should be the cancellation of sanctions,” he said.
In 2014, the United States, European Union and some other countries have introduced sanctions against Russia due to the annexation of the Crimea and armed conflict in the South-East of Ukraine. Moscow has repeatedly declared the illegality of such measures.
