Pope Franciscoto: Vladimir Astapkovich / RIA Novosti
Pope Francis spoke out against life sentences for prisoners. The head of the Roman Catholic Church spoke out during the meeting with representatives of the prison police, writes TASS.
According to him, life in prison is a limitation of hope for a new beginning, and to deprive people of the right to hope not. “Every company is obliged to maintain hope and to do everything so that the punishment does not infringe upon the right to hope and a new attempt of reconciliation,” the Pontiff said.
The priest also added that overcrowded prisons have recently become not a place of correction, and source of anger.
In may of 2019 Francis has spoken out against abortion, stressing that the decision to terminate a pregnancy is impossible, even if the fetus is sick. According to him, priests and doctors must give families support in severe cases. “Is it legal to throw away a life to solve the problem? Can I hire a Hitman to solve the problem?” — said the Pope.
