Russia can supply gas to the EU in 2020 without a new contract with Ukraine. It is reported TASS citing a source in the European energy sector.
According to the source, Ukraine as a member of the European energy community must implement in its legislation the corresponding energy norm by 1 January 2020. In particular, we are talking about changing the order of the auctions for the reservation of transit capacity. The operator of the gas transportation system of Ukraine will be obliged to auction their transit facilities. In turn, “Gazprom” will be able to redeem them for the implementation of short and medium term supply.
Owned by Grigory Berezkin edition by RBC with reference to its source also confirms this information. According to him, the EU can offer this option supply of Russia.
The existing transit contract between Russia and Ukraine expires in December 2019. The parties have not started negotiations on a new, trilateral meeting with EU scheduled for September 19th.
