The special representative of the US state Department on Ukraine Kurt Volker refused to push Kiev to hold elections in the Donbass. This he said on air of 1+1, reports “Interfax-Ukraine”.
According to him, implementation of this scenario would be possible as long as the territories remain “occupied.” “Implementation “of the formula Steinmeier” is possible only after the elections will be held,” said Walker, explaining that the vote on the territory of Donbass should be independent.
He added that to implement the proposals required that Russia withdraw troops from the Donbass. In addition, Moscow should stop supporting the militias and “illegal armed groups” must be disbanded, said the special representative of the United States.
Walker said that Washington may ease sanctions against Moscow if the country will fulfill the Minsk agreement. At the same time, restrictions imposed after the annexation of Crimea to Russia, will remain in place as long as the Peninsula will remain Russian.
“Formula Steinmeier” — proposal of the former Minister of foreign Affairs of Germany, now the President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier on the consolidation of the special status of Donbass and Amnesty, and elections not under the control of Kiev territories.
The armed conflict in the Donbass lasts from 2014. Kiev has repeatedly accused Russia of involvement in the fighting. Moscow denies all the accusations, pointing out their unfounded.
