Over the past 18 years, maternal mortality in Russia decreased 4.4 times, the children of the year 3 times. This was stated by the Minister of health Veronika Skvortsova, reports TASS.
According to her, this rapid growth has made the country a leader in the rate of reduction of maternal and infant mortality rate. This was made possible thanks to the development of perinatal centres and a three-tier system of maternity care.
“Only from 2013 to 2016 built 32 perinatal centers in 30 regions. More than 60 percent of perinatal centers have been equipped with domestic equipment”, — said Skvortsova, speaking at a forum on biomedical technologies “Biotekhmed-2019”. She added that in 2020 in 40 Russian regions will be built at least 40 children’s hospitals and their housing.
In may, Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Golikova said that the infant mortality rate in the country dropped to a historic low. In the first quarter of 2019 year, it was 4.3 cases per one thousand newborns.
In June, the Deputy head of Ministry of health Tatyana Yakovleva stood up for abortion, calling them one of the reasons for the containment of maternal and child mortality.
