Men are three times more likely than women to demonstrate stereotypes about women politicians. This is evidenced by the results of a survey of the all-Russia centre of studying of public opinion (VTSIOM), “Politics with a woman’s face: the Russian variant”, reports “Kommersant”.
The most common negative qualities of women in politics the Russians softness and emotionality (9 percent), inability to concentrate at work (6 percent), lack of foresight (3 per cent) and unprofessional conduct (3 percent). The majority of respondents expressed the opinion that women politicians “at times lacks the will and character to participate in the struggle for power”, in addition, they devote much time to family and children.
The study revealed that 78 percent of Russians have a positive attitude towards the presence of women in this field. Almost a third of respondents said the most famous woman in politics the speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko, and 12 percent of the public figure Irina Khakamada, nine percent — the CEC head Ella Pamfilova.
Almost half of Russians (40 percent) said that women are sufficiently represented in politics. Compared to 1998, this figure rose to 13 percent. The request for increasing the proportion of women in this field became less popular: a third of respondents in 2019 wished to see more women in politics, compared to 45 percent twenty years earlier.
The study, which took place on 12 September, the sociologists interviewed 1,6 thousand people.
